I get around this state because of my job, has anyone gone west on 40 in the a.m. 10 cops sitting in the median if there is a one, and every day too, same when coming home in the p.m. That is a real speed trap. 65 south going past Columbia, same thing. We have many speed traps in this state. Is it constitutional? Good question, but I will say speed limits are necessary. Roads are designed to a certain speed, the aged are protected better, and it does create a safer enviroment for our citizens. I don't think Jefferson was thinking 70 miles an hour was safe in his time, but he did sign into law a "no running horses" in D.C. proper. I think Billy, this falls into safety for the masses, kind of like we can't just shoot our neighbors. Not against the constitution, but still illegal.

Oh yes your right about the idea of safety for the masses. I just get frustrated at how far they take it sometimes.
a line from a song says it all.
"Do this, NO, do that. Can't you read the sign"?

It seems to me that type of get in your face stuff is exactly what they were against. Yes they would be stupid to let people drive faster than the hwy was designed. I can assure you it was not set a low speed like 70 because the military needs to be able to use the interstates as runways for the big birds per Eisenhower's design constraints. The truth of the matter is people travel at the speeds they feel most comfortable with and areas of congestion require common sense to driving. The lack of common courtesy in high volume areas has brought out the whiners who wish for more safety in those instances. Whine enough and the politicians answer the call to grease the squeeky wheel. The next thing you know it gets out of hand with a greedy city here and one over there sprinkled in to make it sting for people who have to work for a living to feed there family. No, I bet outside of congested areas Jefferson would say do whatever you feel but don't hit people or suffer consequences A,B and C. That autobahn is not perfect but it is working for those euro's because they use courtesy.
