Candidate Statement from RC Times:
Danny Crosby
Name: Danny Crosby
Age: 50
Occupation: Owner of Crosby
Equipment Company and Willow Bend Farms
Family: Wife, Dana; children, Ashley Miller, Trip Miller and Dalton Crosby.
To not have to impose a property tax, commercial development would have to come to Coopertown.
How would you do that? In my 33 years of doing business, I met with
numerous companies and have been discussing the possibilities with
several of them to move their business to Coopertown. In addition, it
is very important to have extensive lighting installed at the I-24
exchange. I will work with Robertson County, Pleasant View, and the
State of Tennessee to make this happen. In addition, it is imperative
that we clean up City Hall and get the citizens more involved in their
government. I will improve the services of the Coopertown Police
Department, and work with the Pleasant View Volunteer Fire Department
to assure that not only the citizens, but also the businesses have the
best service(s) possible. I will work closely with the Planning and
Zoning organization to promulgate a 5, 10, and 20-year plan of where
Coopertown is going and how we will get there. One of the most
critical things that has to be done, and it will be, is to clean up
the relationships between the citizens and City Hall. City employees
will be courteous and polite to citizens, which will be a major
change. I will change the way business is done at City Hall and it
will be for the better. This will enable any new business to see what
we can do for them if they bring their business to Coopertown, and
what kind of services they will have available. With 25 square miles of
area and 60 miles of roads, how do you plan to improve and/or maintain
roads?I first need to determine how much revenue we have coming in,
and stop the extravagant spending on unnecessary trips, like: Las
Vegas, Florida, etc. I will evaluate every road for its current
conditions and then establish a priority list of "things to do," and
the worst roads in need. There is a lot of State and Federal dollars
that are available for certain type of projects, and I will pursue
those dollars, as fast as possible. There will be specific
specifications put out on bid and once a contract is let, the
contractor(s) will live up to those specs. With my roads background, I
can assure you we will get everything done that is in the contract,
and every dollar spent will be the best finished product those dollars
can buy. With all the negative publicity surrounding Coopertown, what
would you do to improve its image? The first thing to do is to work
with the community to stop all the arguing back and forth between City
Hall and the citizens. I will set up specific times in my office to
meet with individuals that either have problems or need assistance
with something. This should stop the bad feelings at the City Hall
meetings and will go a long ways to strengthen the relationships
within Coopertown. I will make sure the proper notifications are made
for citizens to know about the meetings and their agenda so they can
attend, if they desire. I will also promulgate a periodic newsletter
to inform the citizens of what is going on and the stop the bad
rhetoric that has plagued this community for so long. I believe that
if the citizens are more aware of and are more involved in their
government, much better relations will exist. Why are you the best
person for the job?I believe I have the best-qualified background and
the strongest ability to work with others to get things accomplished.
This has already been shown with my efforts working with Pleasant
View, Springfield, and others to raise money to fight the dump. I have
the knowledge and the ability to combine all the possible resources
available to continue fighting the dump, and it will be one of my top
priorities. My background in construction is a strong asset for fixing
and taking care of the many miles of roads in Coopertown. I have not
been involved, like my opponent, with the existing management for the
past four years. Henceforth, I will bring new ideas and ways of doing
business at City Hall and will not have someone pulling strings to try
and control me. My administration will be one of "service to the
public" and not one that ignores them. I believe that I have the best
ability and know how to turn things around, for the citizens of
Coopertown, and clean up the past mistakes. I will pursue all the
funding sources, from the State and Federal governments, that are
available for special projects and the enhancement to current services
and minimize the use of current city revenues. In closing, I would
like to say I will bring respect back to City Hall and the community
of Coopertown. Originally published Wednesday, October 13, 2004

Coopertown will be losing a very good man if Danny does not run for election in November. Have you ever seen any of the former mayors out cleaning the roads, mowing the grass, picking up trash, helping at the schools when ever needed, etc? I sure have not. All they do is try to knock what good he is doing.
Ok country girl, I am willling to respond to your dreamy comments about the Mayor.
Now, had that been all he was really doing he would get kudos from everywhere including me. And too he would not be the perceived as the very reason for the hell we have had to contend with concerning the blight he has put on Coopertown's name. But alas to the mayor's despair, we have very little to hang our hats on but we do we have the damage to our little town's reputation that may take a decade or more to undo.
I cannot fault you for your lack of true understanding of the problem But I believe you'll find that, just like the enormous response to the petition, there is a huge uproar in our community brought on solely by him and actions. The misteps made were/are enormous. I feel it is either you don't currently truly undersrtand or you never actually cared about the little people mixed up in all this who have families to feed and feel your a rare breed indeed if you can look the other way and live with your own consceince.
Other things that go against your point of view are more that slightly interesting to the casual observers. Things like needing to hire 7 police chiefs, SEVEN!!!!! Oh thats right it is all our fault they 'needed' to be fired. At least in some of his enablors minds, it is our fault that he was such a poor judge of character (isn't that what y'all want to say as your answer to all of our questions?).
Honestly, I contend that it is not our fault at all for 7 of them in less than 4 years. That speaks volumes for itself and is fodder for any future campaign or office he may ever seek to run for election in Roberston County, even dogcatcher.
Another thing I feel will hang him out to dry is the one where he is quoted as saying things like "the budget is theoretical" and "who cares about the budget anyway". Now would you agree that those kind of thoughts are not defendable by you as good judgement?
I ask also, for him to be such a provenly poor judge of character in an extremely important position of the nature of a qualified Police Chief, would that be something on your list of good practices for a mayor? By the way the last one was hired by what I now was a proper procedure and he may be our Chief for a time to come if he can get past our past. Would the Mayor of Nashville or Memphis get a pass if they had the same problem too? I think not!!!
Country girl, thanks for reminding me why I feel this way. Thanks for proving that some people are just not willing to face facts head on OR that maybe they just feel like they are just to good be bothered with those little details that go against what they WANT to believe is the truth.
It really helps me focus on all this a little better when people do it out of misunderstanding or negligant elitism. It stirs me to thinking about the little man, that except for the grace of God could be me, is in that situation. Truly, some people prefer me focused for all the right reasons and some just don't want to face the music! You can decide what is right but you must not allow details to go away because it is not what you wished it to be or you will be very, very wrong.

countrygirl, thank you for your opposing view to that which is usually posted on this forum. I wish more pro Crosby supporters would post on here and show their support, such as you did. I know there are people out there who support him, they just don't come to his defense very often, except for Gordon, of course.

I tend to look at the whole person rather than pick and choose what I want. Our mayor has not been the worse mayor in the state. He does care about the city, I have seen him showing possible investors around, trying to help clean up this town.
I can think of many who I would rather see in there as mayor, and many I would not. Sam Childs would not get my vote, BPugh would not get my vote. (sorry Billy, you are a little stubborn and ol'fashioned for my taste). I have to think about Peggy, is she a leader or just a complainer, can she think on her feet or have to study things for three years. We need a debate of our mayor wannabe's, with real questions about the future of our city. I also have to admit, I don't think our "reputation" is any worse than Nashville being the 4th most violent city in America this year.
Oh I suppose I might be a tad old fashioned, but if we were all the same the world would NOT spin!
Nashville's inclusion at such a high rank does give us a reason for concern. We are living in an area that has attracted a lot of new people with diverse, clashing lifestyles. Gangs came in with them. We actually see growth in violent people choosing to move to Nashville.
Memphis, on the other hand, has always been a wild city. I lived there in the late 60's and people being shot was an everyday occurance then. Dr. King was shot while I lived there.

Nashville gives me great concern as to out of control a "used to be" nice town can turn in a year. That is why we as a city need planned growth, developing community growth as well. We need parks, sidewalks, ice cream parlors, and a family atmosphere. We can as a city no longer just exist day to day. Speed trap, not a bad reputation for keeping out riff-raff. maybe a town meeting looking for ideas and suggestions on direction, or a public forum from candidates seeking office to hear their ideas so we can better vote.
