How about you fill in the blank????

My fellings is if they don't vote us out of existance we should ask the citizens to raise the number of Alderman to accomodate the other part of the community better, say maybe rasie it to 6 or even 8. We have 25 square miles to watch over.

Interesting concept Billy,

As far as filling in the blank I would say the November election.

As far as an increase in aldermen, you may be on to something there. I'm not sure if square mileage is the determining factor on the amount of aldermen a city must have or the population count. Pleasant View and Coopertown have close to the same population but we have 1/2 the square mileage. We have the same amount of mayor and alderman. I think an increase in aldermen would put a dent in the "good ol' boys" club.

Based on my findings and understanding of the city charter in Coopertown, a municipality of less than 5,000 can have only one ward with 2 alderman and a mayor. A municipality of more than 5,000 can have 2 wards with 2 alderman from each ward and a mayor (our current setup).

In order to have more alderman, Coopertown would have to establish additional wards (in my mind that would be easy to do with our area sq ft.) However, a municipality of more than 5,000 should never decrease the amount of wards below two. So as it appears we are running our town with as few board members as we can squeak by with, thus creating the good ole boys club that Danny, Larry, Donnie and occasionally Robert Dale all belong to.

I wouldn't see why we couldn't increase our wards to four from the current two and then Coopertown would have 8 alderman/alderwomen and 1 mayor. It would have to be agreed upon by all members of the current board of mayor and aldermen and would go into effect at the next municipal election. One additional ward could be added this election and the other one added in two years. Any thoughts?

That pretty much nips that idea in the bud.

Maybe during this current term, but with a new, sensible mayor it could be brought forth and voted upon. Personally I think the citizens should decide that but the charter says otherwise.

Ha! Anybody in Coopertown could run for mayor against Danny Crosby and win hands down with that qualification alone!
